Description of Position
The RN Nurse Manager supports the Emergency Services Program, providing psychiatric nursing, medical support and short term residential support for those who are experiencing urgent psychiatric treatment needs at the Community Crisis Stabilization Unit. You will prioritize client's needs at the time of admission and during a short-term, voluntary therapeutic residential stay. As you assist patients in recovery efforts, you will mentor your nursing staff and be an example of best practices and whole-person care.
Client Care
- Assess and prioritize client health needs, concerns and biomedical status upon admission and during monitoring
- Examine the presence of behavioral health conditions of clients in crisis
- Monitor response to psychotropic medications as prescribed
- Provide nursing care, education, and administer medication to clients with mental health, substance abuse/dependence, and/or intellectual disabilities
- Perform crisis intervention and clinical screening/assessments of children and adults' mental health, substance use, and physical health needs with the support of the crisis intervention clinicians
- Responsible and accountable for the quality of nursing care delivered, and establishes/oversees medication administration according to the Nurse Practitioner or Physician's order
- Assists in admitting, discharging and transferring processes ensuring that patient safety is addressed
Clinical Support
- General supervision of all subordinate nursing and paraprofessional staff
- Timely and accurately record and report all observed symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in the client's safety status in the medical file and to their supervisor
- Maintain electronic medical record to promote coordinated care
- Assures collection of appropriate assessment and screening information, to include bio-psycho-social information, psychiatric and medication history, alcohol/drug information in collaboration with the crisis intervention clinicians
- Oversee and direct nursing operations and admissions for the Crisis Stabilization Unit Supervise and participate in the care of patients using the standards of care and current nursing policies
- Participates in treatment team meetings, assists with development of care plans, and reports directly to the Nurse Manager/Program Director any issues for shift report
Requirements
Registered Nurse with experience in behavioral health care. Current Massachusetts nursing license, CPR, First Aid, and related 2 years experience in the field of mental health and/or substance abuse. Must have at least one year of management experience.
- Knowledge of basic standards of psychiatric nursing
- Desire to work with a diverse client population in a sensitive manner
- Familiarity with psychiatric medications and common side effects is highly desirable
- Willingness to work in a multicultural setting and share in a customer service orientation
- Ability to manage difficult or emotional situations
- Responds promptly to client needs with a focus on problem solving
- Maintain confidentiality in all circumstances
- Preference for a work setting that requires multi-tasking and high contact with clients and staff members
- Knowledge of mental health and substance abuse treatment approach
- Computer skills (electronic health record experience preferred)
